large Hoop pine any1 want it?
Hi i have a Hoop pine tree on our property 90 cm diametre and really tall. We think it has been hit by lightning and it is slowing dying. It would be a waste to see a large amount of very good timber rot away. Does any one want to come out to Gympie in Qld to cut it down and buy it off me? or who can i talk to to get it milled or something?
thanks
Mark

apart from reading Micks post and feeling a bit like a doofus, u may wanna call the Loggerheads guys in Gympie or the local mill, timber recycler people, they may help.
Hoop has to be milled and set to dry immediatley after cutting or u get the dreaded blue mould...
good luck

Mark,
you didn't follow the link that RufflyRustic posted did you? You should, it really is worth the five minutes or so it will take you to read, and I'm not saying that because I wrote it. If you look at the rest of the posts in this thread you'll notice that Wongo is the only one showing any interest in buying your timber but he's in Sydney so it can be safely assumed he's just pulling your leg.

hahhah no worrie Mick, GRRR, i think you may be very lucky to find someone whose gonna pay you for the privelige of coming arund and cutting yr tree down and taking it away but good luck.
A Mick pointed out in his post, most woods needs careful cutting, drying and dressing to be much use to woodies, hoop can be pretty touchy stuff if not handled correctly, so the only way you are likely to make some $$$ is to get it cut and prepped yrself, wait till it dries, while be stored properly and sell it for the 1800 per cube that retail people can get for hoop.
I got a few hoop logs cluttering up my driveway, a few more in the farmers paddock down the road...

Apart from the fact that.... its dying.....may have been struck by lightning.
Good chance its buggered in side.
