Default I should know what this is...

I got 3 boards od what was supposed to be cedar. On sighting them it was obvious they were not what I was expecting.
It is yet another reminder as to why I have to write names on all my pieces of timber.

What is this? It is very heavy.

It looks like Silky Oak with some great figure, but Silky isn't that heavy. Are they big or thick boards?

Rather than having to write on every stick, I just number the end and each number represents the specie. The next number is the length. 3-4.8

This is where my use of the Timber Buyers Guide fails me as it doesnt look like anything in the book, let alone Maple.
Its a pity there is only 1 pic for each species

Even if they had half a dozen photos we would still be left wondering. The variances in some timbers are quite extensive and often all available indicators are required to make an ID. So much for a single photo. I guess its a bit like the Streakers Lamment......it seemed like a good idea at the time.
