Jarrah floorboards, project ideas
Okay guys/girls, have just been offered a house load of jarrah floorboards , demolition job, jumped at the offer.
Now my question to all, other than being reused for a floor in somebody elses house, am looking for project ideas for the use of this timber, havent seen the timber yet but apperantly they are not wide timbers.
Plus i have to rip it up myself , so dont know the condition of it by then, lol.
Have a few ideas already floating in the noggin, but looking for more..

Having done this as part of my own house demolition with the aim to recover the flooring for future use and not as flooring, it didn't work. So I doubt you will recover very much.
Just be aware that you are not being used a cheap labour with nothing more than a pile of fire wood to get rid of.

Hi Rod, no dramas there with the labour, need the exercise..havnt seen the wood yet as so it may not be worth the trouble as you say, could be a firewood exercise, real shame if it was.

A better option will be the floor joists and bearers along with the ceiling joists, hanging beams, roof rafters, hips ridges and valleys etc etc.

I agree with Rod1949.
Look at what other timber may be available to you.
Reclaiming floor boards in good condition, is a slow process, it can't be rushed, as you will damage more than you salvage. It is also better to have at least 2 people on the job.
You also need to check out the time line for the removal.
Are you expected to clear the site in 1 day, ?. 1 week, ? . 1 month, ? .
The time you take for the job is critical to the quality you will be able to retrieve.
Paul.I FISH THEREFORE I AM.

Thanks for the comments guys, i have limited time as the demolition crew will be coming in so no doubt they will be picking through for salavage etc, but if i get a opputunity for extra will grab it, didnt think of the floor joists etc.
unfortunately i am away at work for another week till i can suss it out.

A good use for old flooring is kitchen bench tops etc. Rip off the tongue and groove, depending on the width of the board rip to approx 35mm, turn boards on edge and glue up with epoxy. Nail holes are no longer visible if a clear piece from the centre of a floor board is used on the outer edges. Makes nice bench tops, table tops, vanity tops, stair treads etc etc.

Last time I ripped up a floor, a small one ,at that with the full idea of making firewood. I cut the flooring either side joists and ended up with slabs about 400 long. I have now being using them as block and chocks even made a few different thing from them. It made handling them easy.
Just my 2 cents worth.
