    Red face Mexican wood

Can someone tell me where I can acquire (buy or scrounge) small quantities of Mexican wood. colour is not important. I am thinkig about making chessboards and turning chessmen for my kids and one is married to a Mexican girl - thought it would be nice to include timber from her homeland.

Suppliers in Melbourne preferred but prepared to buy online etc.

    Many thanks,

When you say Mexico, are you saying from Melbourne, or actually from Mexico? Most of us northerners call people from Melbourne mexicans

If from actual Mexico, try here https://www.cookwoods.com/lumber-sit...od-by-species/ to identify species from Mexico (he says where timber is from, such as Bocote, Cocobolo etc) that are suitable. Then either order some from him, although delivery can kill, or check out your local suppliers for the species.

    Neil,

Let me clarify. I am looking for a Melbourne supplier of Mexican wood where I can go and collect it. Next preference is an Australian supplier not in Melbourne provided freight costs are reasonable. I do not want to have the hassle of buying a small order online from an overseas supplier and then try to get it then trying to get it through quarantine, customs etc.

    Cheers

Ken, whilst Neil's advice maybe sound, his attempts at humour are not.

Here is a thesis with comprehensive tables on Mexican timber species :

That said, some U.S. timber stores sell predominantly Mexican timber. Here's probably the best one.
