Norfolk Island pine on Sydney North Shore
An acquaintance of mine from an Internet chat channel, who lives on the Sydney North Shore, is having a 600 mm diameter Norfolk Island pine about 15 m tall felled early next week. He was intending to get it chipped as mulch for his garden. If there is anyone who is interested in the timber, PM me before Monday May 30th, and I will provide you with the owner's e-mail address (he is a hospital anaesthetist who is on duty this weekend, so only contactable by e-mail).

Hi Rocker
I had one cut down, and IMHO it barely made good firewood. Very sappy sticky wood. The knots extend right into the centre of the trunk, and the grain is pretty featureless. Still, it may be good for slabs, or something. The only way to get rid of a [Domino] temptation is to yield to it. Oscar Wilde

It can actually with a bit of effort make well-figured turned items - stained by pink and green moulds. See Chris Allen's album on WoW.
Or rough turned, dried and decorated ... It isn't often you can get lumps of free timber that size. Turns well.
Let me know if you want more info. I got half a trailer full six months ago and have been playing around with it.Cheers, Ern

Others would disagree with the negative tone of this thread.
I have a tree drying in the shed, hoping to do work like this in the future.

surf
Yeah Prav, some nice stuff there.
I just spent last weekend in Sydney, a lot of it on the North shores.
3.5 hour lunch at Fairy Bower Friday arvo.... walked the dog at Nth Curl Curl, Sunday breakfast at Dee Why.... I can't help thinking that it's a pity that they have to cut it down.
I have spent most of my life in Qld & I have never seen surf like I saw at the North Shore suburbs in Sydney on Sunday 29 May 2005..... that was F'n awsome.:eek:Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Cliff,
We sure have had some monster surf here lately. Much too big for pussies like me!
