Has anyone worked with Olive Wood
Have found a source of Olive Wood and want to make pen holders from the wood. The owners of the Olive grove are even willing to store the wood in the manner I ask ( to the extent of placing the prunings in a dam until I can collect them if thats what is best) but I have no idea which is the best way to dry it. Has anyone worked with it and how did they do so. Dit they work with it wet and hope for the best, or dry it without the cracking or what. As I am normally carving burls this is a totally new field for me and any suggestions will be accepted

Yes I picked up a small tree of olive a few years ago in Leichart. Air dried, still in the ground, seven years dead, very few splits, still some bark on. It cuts and works beautifully, lovely marbled browns and creams, I finished it with olive oil to preserve the natural smell.
