    Default Optical illusion

    This piece of Australian Blackwood has been dressed all 4 sides
    However, because of the fiddleback, looks like the surface of the wood is uneven
    Tricky on the eyes...MM

    you say it's DAR but the top edge in the photo is not straight and appears to be showing lifted grain from ripping on the saw....?

    Slight lifting of the grain Ray as piece was quickly dressed with hand planer...MM

    I have purchased some of MM's Australian Blackwood and can verify that many of the pen blanks show this spectacular grain and chatoyancy. Dresses & turns quite well but can be a bear at times.
