A slab of tooheys for a slab of timber?(don't offer any QLD beer or he'll think you're trying to scam him.)
Don't pay him too much Jake, tell him t's all good experience and fun. Maybe share some of the wood with him for his efforts.
Is he making an illegal income on the sly? Perhaps a little blackmail?
You're an intelligent type, suss it out. What would it cost you commercially? What are you prepared to pay? How badly do you want it? or need it?
    Cheers
    Jim

yeah, well, spose I dont really know what it goes for commercially. I'm pretty sure he knows, and he's not going to be fair if he doesn't need to be uno. He's a cheeky one. just want to make sure I don't get ripped.

Apricotripper - the going rate for slabbing of your logs by a mobile miller is around $110/hr (regardless of what the species of timber is) Now don't quote me on this as this is what I've found to be the norm around my region of the world. Having said that I'm looking at doing a job for another miller in the near future at $70 hour for slabbing - he doesn't have slabbing capability, but is a decent bloke and I'm just wanting to help him out.

You do get some guys who are happy to do a bit of a trade with 1/3 share in timber for a reduced hourly rate etc. it is a lot to do with the individual operator. Me personally, my kids can't eat sawdust, so I don't swap timber any more.

The fella you are looking at doing the job, he'd have a rate he charges and if he is up front, he'd have no problem telling you what he charges to do milling or slabbing. If he can't tell you a rate for some reason, I'd be a bit wary (as to me it says) he isn't a sawyer, just an owner and is looking to make a quick buck.

If you want some other names of guys you can talk to about the slabbing job, contact Lucas on free call 1800 LUCAS1 they'll give you names of guys who have equipment to do the job in your area.

Good luck and let us know how you go.
I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
    Allan.

    $800-1200 green off the saw.

if you supply the log, hourly rate applys. $800 a day is going rate around here for mobile lucus. $$$ for one log, set up pack up etc etc.
