Silky Oak Tree - Advice Needed
Hi I live in Euroa, Victoria, and we need some advice. I have been told the tree that I want removed is a Silky Oak Tree. It's about 20 metres tall ? and the trunk around shoulder height is 1.9m around. We have got two quotes to remove it which is $1400/$1500 but I have been told its valuable timber. I want to know is it worth anyone (I mean a proper timber person who has got all the right qualifications) coming and removing the tree for the timber, I don't care what they do with the timber as long as its gone and no expense to me, and I don't want money for it or do I pay the tree removalists the $1400/$1500 for them to chip it and just take it away and be done with it. The only thing is the tree is in the corner of our front yard and right on the side neighbours fence line. There are power lines on the nature strip which would be around 5 metres away and there is a norfolk pine right next to the tree as well which is smaller and is about 6-8 meters. Could people please give me suggestions. Thank you.
Please excuse all the branches and stuff under the tree, that is only there till tomorrow because we cut down another tree last weekend and it all has to be removed.

Have a look at the nearby thread "Silky Oak".
Your tree is definitely Grevillea robusta, known as Silky Oak.
But the confusion is that Silky Oak the furniture timber is not from Silky Oak the ornamental, but from rainforest species in Far North Queensland.Brian

silky
S silky oak (G Robusta) is also a recognised furniture timber, some like its pink colours.
It is worth something, probably a few hundred dollars.
Someone in the forum will be interested as it is a feasoale size.
I'm in Sydney so can't help.

maybe
Hi,
you maybe able to get a sparky to temporarily take down the bundled line to your house then just drop the tree straight across your front yard.
The wood is nice and is worth saving if possible.

as a portable saw miller,i don't pay for logs as a rule.in your case i wouldn't pay for the log due to reason that there are a lot of silky oaks about.the other thing to is you might find that the timber in the tree isn't worth the felling costs. regards andrew
