Slabs in Canberra (?)
Hi guys, I've been lurking about this forum for a awhile but I've finally made the membership plunge.
I'm hoping that someone may know of a supplier of slabs in the Canberra region. There was a guy who used to sell from the back of a ute in Gungahlin. This was when we first moved in to our house, and of course, when I finally had a few reddies to buy something, he'd packed up and I haven't seen him since.
Anyway, I'm hoping someone may know someone who supplies slabs.
Cheers
Scott

Go to Monaro Timber/Adam's Timber in Fyshwick.
(can't remember the newest name, I think it's Monaro)
The guys there will know more people than just about anyone locally.

Moanro Timber
According to the White pages MONARO TIMBER is at 46 Townsville St Fyshwick 2609 (02) 6280 6467. Not been there myself yet, but I've been looking for a good timber supplier around here for a while, so if you have a look tell us what you think. If anybody out there has any other good sources of interesting stuff for hobbyists around the ACT I'd be happy to hear them. A guy can only buy so much at the Working With Wood Show without the missus becoming suspicious!
Cheers,
John

Scott, John
when we were at the Kingston Bus depot markets in June, there were a couple of woodies exhibiting/selling stuff there - they might point you to wood sources, also.
cheers

Thanks all for the replies. I've checked out Monaro Timber and they have some really nice stuff.
I'm still keen to track down someone with a mill (eg Lucasmill) 'cause hopefully their overheads (such as rent etc) will be less and we can cut out the middle man and keep the prices down a bit. (Support the little guy and save a few reddies at the same time)
The Kingston Markets are a good idea and the Wood Show might provide some leads.
Thanks again
Scott

Lucasmill - was slabs in Canberra
Gordon Smith in Hall has a lucas mill - he recently milled a tree for me after the January bushfires. He has a setup that can mill boards or slabs.
Cheers

Ring Lusas Mills and they will tell you who has a mill near by. I have had people refered to me by them.
