Default stable 1/4 sawn aussie hazrdwood

    hi team,

I want to make a mod to my SCMS ala roger gifkins so i can have a timber fence to attach for precision cuts to tiny timbers for boxes... see pic of rogers setup...

Q: what is an extremely stable, knot free, dense, rigid 1/4 sawn aussie hardwood commonly avail in lengths of 2000x90x50mm (approx)

note rogers pic has a jarrah fence - would this be the best timber for this type of thing ? i'd rather only make this thing once.... rather than have the bugger warp and lose square and buckle etc..

appreciate some advice - remember im in sydney so local timber would be good to keep price down.

    cheers!!!
    Zed

Tassie oak fits the bill, but you might have to look around for that size. Likewise Jarrah.

My fence is a laminated length of around 11 plies, (came out of a skip) which was secured to a modern piece of plywood door (also has a laminated core) and drops on to an anchorage point at saw end and another anchorage point at far end. The platform is removable. When I have cleared out the workshop after our hectic weekend I will post a picture.
The reason I have come into thread at this stage, "be extra careful that the steel ruler in your picture cannot at anytime come into contact with the blade"
It happened to me a couple of years ago and some teeth came off the blade like bullets and peppered the place but fortunately missed me.

    Zed,
most Tas Oak I have seen is 1/4 sawn. This would probably be the most stable as far as solid timber goes in OZ.

I dunno about that. Red mahogany is incredibly stable, with bugger all movement even when green. Mind you, it's not commonly available, but we do have a bit...
