OK, I have done a search and had a look at the yellow pages online and still none the wiser ( no wisecracks) so Goodwoody, Bitingmidge where do you get your timber, Brissy? Do any of the local sawmills supply slabs, hobby timbers or are they only supplying building timbers?
Cheers

Baz,
Your best bet in the Maroochydore area is Advance timbers at Kunda Park. They have a fair variety of timbers, but, when I went there, a couple of years ago, you couldn't select your timber yourself. But George Gavaric, a well-known cabinet maker, buys from there, he told me.
I have usually bought from Britton Timber in Strathpine, a northern suburb of Brisbane. There is also Lazarides and Endeavour Timbers in Brisbane.
It might be worth your visiting Randy McGraw's woodwork gallery at Witta, west of Maleny. He will probably tell you where he gets his timber supplies.

I get my timber from..... well actually I haven't bought any for at least three years! I have been a bit preoccupied with demolition and reconstruction of the house, have a fair old stock of oregon and hoop pine, a bit of non-descript hardwood and often scrounge pallets and packing cases for all sorts of things.
My projects for the next few years are going to be based around setting up the workshop properly, and building a few small boats so Gaboon Ply and WRC it is! Maybe a Kiri or Balsa strip planked canoe as well but nothing from local suppliers.
I was going to give Endeavour a tug (cause I've seen 'em make posts here) for a few small bits for musical instruments, but apart from that I'm very much learning about sourcing cabinet timbers myself.
Another source for odd or interesting bits of timber is Ian Simpson at Touchwood Maleny Ian used to have a deal with local tree loppers and had lots of odd things milled and kiln dried, may still have some stock. Randy McGraw's details are HERE.
I have a few contact details of guys who supply slabs, will try to dig them out...but may have run out of time for you?
There are a number of small mills around Kenilworth, and many other towns in the district, but I was actually waiting to see what response your question flushed out for my own purposes!
Please let us know what you have found..there may be gold in them thar hills! (The towns mentioned above are more or less half an hours drive from the Coast, and very pleasant driving it is too, with lots of places to stop for a nice cup of tea.)
If I can be of any assistance when you are up send me a PM and I'll give you my contact details,
Regards,
P

It isn't sunshine coast but if you are comming from the frozen south near enough.
there is a place called the slab hut near capalaba (brisbane south east) that is a shop for the pulford family who run a mobile mill. they have a good selection of kiln dried salbs & the gear to flatten them if you like.
not far off the gateway arterial.
old cleveland rd near the corner of greencamp rd.

Along the highway you should pass the Ettamogah Pub. Inside the comples is Petes Timber Shack, they stock some slabs burls and the like big and small along with some interesting root structures. The husband also runs a slabbing business so the have a larger stockpile at their house (about 10min by car from the pub) A bit expensive though.
A word of warning AVOID the palmview sawmill if it isn't green (cca) they're not interested!!!!!!!!! The previous owner was a bit shonky and the new owner can be a mongrel. I had an Uncle whon was developing some land at Buderim and contacted the P.Sawmill about buying the trees - the response was:
"if you drop them off in the yard I'll take them off your hands for nothing"
Anyway enough bitching. enjoy the coast and hinterland which is your best bet for quality timber. Maleny, Conandale. Eudlo, etc.Last edited by RETIRED; 31st May 2004 at 06:04 PM.

There are plenty of yards that sell "ordinary" timber, pine & hardwood
I dont know of any specialist suppliers, though there could be one at Kunda Park, Check the Yellow Pages (Hard copy )when u get here.
Dont forget to visit the Blackall Range area For a look around.
have a good stay

So Johnno,
Are we to presume that the part of Australia that you love the best is indeed the part at the beach a little to the north of Brisvegas?

timber on sunshine coast
hello baz
advance timber is the only serious commercial yard on the coast. However, there are many many smaller guys around. There is one block down the road from me who has about 40 species at around $1500-2000 per cube. The biggest question is what are you after. if you let me know i will endevour to steer you in the right direction.
cheers
