Default timber advice and supply - help me build my bed

    hello all,

i have been patiently saving my money for everything i need to finally build a bed. i have all the tools i need (although i could always do with more ) and now its time to buy the wood.

i have never taken on such a large project and although i have a general idea of how much to timber will cost i am a little concerned that i may not have enough in my budget. i need advice and what better place to turn to (i love this forum! )

my cut list is as follows:
    90mm x 90mm - about 2.5m to 3m (leg stock)
    27mm x 127mm - about 7.2m to 7.5m (rail stock)
    27mm x 90mm - about 3m to 3.2m (to build the headboard)

i have not decided on a type of wood, all that i know is i want a dark wood (and i dont want to stain as i am constantly disappointed with the finish).

i would love to hear your thoughts on what type of wood i should use.

also, i am not sure where to buy the wood or how much its going to cost me. if anyone knows of a place in the sydney area that can supply the wood (DAR) that you think the project should be made out of, please let me know.

    cheers
