Default Timber posts for my workshop

I am in the process of building my workshop. It has a second story, part of which is supported by 300mmX3600mm timber posts (engineer's spec).
My builder has proposed treated pine.
Being a woodie, I had in mind some nice rustic beams which have seen a bit of life, but not sure where to go to source them at a sensible price. Any suggestions for either new or old, hardwood or softwood?
I have seen some newly cut hardwood logs which are cut into stainer posts for farm fences. Any comments about using these?

    Regards

    Gordon

The builders gunna have enough problems moving that size pine around.
If you go to hardwood etc he might not even be able to handle it so expect the price to go right up if you use hardwood.
