Oh yea where is he from i know there is some at Byron Bay and some up here and it pretty much only grows in creeks its called cockspur because thats the shape of its thorn, in the early days it used to be used as a dye ive actually tried it and it works but it washes out im not sure how common it is though.

Hi guys,
I've been given a piece of wood and told it was cockspur for my small wood collection. I always like to look up info about the pieces I have, etc but I haven't found anything about this one. Does cockspur have another name?
Cheers

Cockspur is often found under trees where the birds that eat the fruit poop the seeds.
I don't think it is native and any farmer I know on th coast of NSW hates the stuff.
