Mumble mumble mumble.
I want a bandsaw. I need a bandsaw. Triton reckon they can tell me when they will be available - in August - and bloody Bunnies have no ideas at all. I'm seriously underwelmed. If youall reckon the schepach is the same deal, might have go there. Pity.

Why so?
Good question Grasshopper.
GMC own Triton. GMC move HUGE volumes of stock. Hence the overhead that needs to be allocated for shipping, handling, warehousing, insurance, admin etc to each unit of stock sold is miniscule compared to what a small importer would have to allocate for the same product.
I know this, as I am a small importer and the ratio of overheads to units of volume sold is what will make or break a business.
If anything, this is possibly one of the greatest services that GMC is able to bring to Triton.
The economies of scale that GMC have enable them to source or develop a range of tools under the Triton name that would never have been possible under the old model.
If the Scheppach band saws were available in Australia for less than the retail price that they could be released in the market for under the Titon brand, do you think GMC would bother with releasing it?
For some of us, the Triton name has a degree of value. It does not have so much value that we would be willing to pay a premium just for the badge and colour.
If GMC stick with only badging products that are of Triton quality, they will have an avenue to release new products smoothly into an accepting market, and we as Triton users will have access to an increased range of product that we have been able to rely on in the past.
If GMC badge any old crap as Triton, they will lose a solid and dedicated customer base, and effectivly burn what they paid good money to buy. They guy that runs GMC may be many things, but stupid is not one of them.

Barry,
CORRECT...didnt want to be the one to break the news. Scheppach limit their European manufacturing, for the same reasons as us Aussies and out local brands.
Steve
Scheppach do indeed have distribution here through Carba-Tec stores, and it does have a keen following (although its 'fans' dont bleed Orange like us Triton fans - more a Blue and Poo colour). This following carries on from the 'old days' when it was all coming out of Europe most likely. The lure of cheap manufacturing will have pushed them offshore like most others.
As for Triton and Scheppach being the same units.....you can all form your own opinion on that one (also check out the upcoming Triton wetstone grinder vs. Scheppach Tiger 2000 wetstone while you are poking around on the Carbatec site.)
What a Co-Inki-Dink!
What next - 10" Planer / Thicknessers

Dont be lured into thinking these are isolated cases though...
The only truly unique 'Triton' products were out way before GMC were involved.
Find me a copycat TRA router - or steel cutter - or workcentre.

Which came first though - Chicken/Triton or the Egg/Durq?
Whatever the case, I think Triton's (re-)engineering of the saw is evidenced by the lack of a few features found on the TSA001 (eg: the excellent micro height adjuster for one).

Triton designed - with Durq manufacturing for Triton.
The saw WAS sold in Australia prior to Triton re-enginerring it, as a Ruckman (think Bunnies used to sell them - or maybe Hardware House??) - minus the micro adjusters and a few other bits.
So I guess that makes it the Chicken and Egg arrivied at the same time (I always thought thats how it happened !)

It is well known that the latest batch are re-engineered etc, but there is one other factor.
Triton will not compromise quality. That is a given, so presumably the Scheppach TiGer 2000 and the Triton are at least identical.
Scheppach : $A 465
Triton : $A 89 (approximate price - I don't have the exact figures, but I believe it is somewhere around the $100 mark).
Your choice. I don't mind my tools being orange, so long as they are quality."Clear, Ease Springs"

From the Triton website,
Wet & Dry sharpener - release was July 06, then August 06, now 2007
The two thicknessers, release was August 06, now October 06
The two bandsaws, release was August 06, now 2007
The 3 in 1 sander, release was ?July 06, then August 06, now October 06.
I was going to get the Wet & Dry sharpener and the 3 in 1 sander myself. I can't keep putting off purchasing one forever, and a guess a lot of the customers who have been waiting to make purchases will find themselves with the same decision. I'm now looking at the Jet Spindle Sander
but as to the sharpening system, that is very disappointing to have it put back, and back again, as being a duplicate of an existing system, it can't be an engineering delay, and it is significantly cheaper than it's non orange twin."Clear, Ease Springs"
