Arrow I Belive the Deal is Done

Hi people my first time here.
I had been trying to source a new 1/2" Triton Router, in the midst of all my efforts I phoned GMC/Triton who gave me really good advice. More to the point they informed me that a Sale Deal had been done and should be finalised by the end of February early March. Trading should resume soon after.
By the way I did use their advise re router am now the proud owner of the new unit which is attached to the new router table.

    Default whats the big problem?

    Hi to all
First time blogger long time reader - probably got this all in the wrong forum!

I have looked at most of the posts here and cannot understand why there are so many comments about GMC going into receivership.
Product is/was poor...my local Bunnings could never be straight on warranty and service. I am sure that they are not alone and it seems like M10 Home and Bunnings all saw the light at the same time.

However triton...great stuff but ruined by GMC reputation. But...get yourself onto ebay. Loads of bargains. I bought a few things from one guy ozlongboarder62 he sold loads of GMC stuff from his dead father, ill father, no longer needed lies etc etc. you know what I am saying!

GMC dead...who cares? and please dont talk about the workers. The owners knew the situation in the way they managed the business
    Triton - I f I had the cash I'd buy it

    Biggsy,

    Welcome to the forum.

I think the number of comments on this issue are understandable. In a forum for people interested in a product, the biggest event since its inception is likely to trigger discussion. You will note that a very large percentage of the posts in this thread are speculation and questions about the state of affairs.

If the information flow was reliableand timely, we felt secure that from a given date parts and options would be available, there would be little need for much of this discussion.

Before commensing my operations in Japan, I spent a lot of time scouring through every post on this forum so I could build a dtabase of problems and their solutions. If there is someone out there who has bought Triton, this forum will give a great amount of information on what works and does not, as far as customer expectations with regard to the Triton range.

The nature of the product, its manufacture and distribution, as a kit mean that there will always be a number of faulty products sold. If you go trough the old posts, the consensus seemed to be that as the customer service was fast, efficient, cheap and friendly, customers more often than not walked away from the experience and firmer fans of the brand.

Sadly, when a company is divided into cost centers and after sales is looked at seperately from marketing, cuts are made that damage the brand.

As for GMC, many of us thought they bought Triton so they could use the brand to launch some higher end products, not to bring Triton's level down to that of GMC.

We also talk about the workers as some of them we have known for years. Gordon has been with Triton for ages. He is the face we would see at the information nights, on product boxes and in some promotional videos. As he has given many of us some great tips at trade shows, or just been happy to have a chat. Eagle has been one of the few GMC employees courteous enough to participate in this forum.

Best I just post here say nothing, and think that thank God, you and your attitude to the workers should have gone out the door with Little Johnie's No Choice.

I agree with that wholeheartedly. If I post mytrue feelings here when I read Tritonite44's post it would be deleted and I'd be given an infraction.

    Red face

Sorry I do not mean to offend. The workers at GMC are important of course and I hope that either a buyer comes through and takes them on or they find gainful employment elsewhere.
My gripe is not with them but with the owners. Administration doesn't come out of the blue ....it builds over time and the owners know whats happening. Its like divorce ( I should know) - you cannot say that it just happens.

I know from my local Bunnings that what has happened was only a matter of time. The tool shop guys were forced to keep selling GMC despite mountains of returns. I think it has been a brave move by Bunnings because either you get caught in a problem forever or you fix it. They fixed it.....well so far. Ryobi - I don't know, but the toolshop looks a lot better.

I really want to see Triton succeed Its and icon. So how about we all put ten bucks in and try to buy it out!

Sounds like the perfect way to spend Kevin's Kash. Stimulate the Chinese economy and the Australian one at the same time....

I have about heaps of GMC returns. It is usually quoted as an indicator of qulity, but I wonder about that. I would guess that a lot of GMC returns stem more from a policy that allows you to buy a tool, use it for 30 days and return it no questions asked when you have finished the job, and then do it all again in 6 months time when you need that tool again. It's kind of like a free hire policy. I know that there are a lot of people who would never take advantage of that policy, but there has to be enough out there who would take advantage to generate a significant number of returns. I particularly suspect this is the case as after the 30 day period Bunnings used to refuse to take returns and directed all warranty issues direct to GMC. That means that the mountain of returns at Bunnings were all tools that were unwanted within 30 days - not broken tools from longer into the warranty.

The other day I described to my daughter how to find something in the garage by saying "It's right near my big saw". A few minutes later she came back to ask: "Do you mean the black one, the green one, or the blue one?".

there are more than you think, the whole reason the 30 day satisfaction went was because people were using it as hire equipment.

As for loads of returns I would like to give you the information relating to the data on returns in % but I dont think you guys would believe it and then the posts would roll in!!

    Cheers,

    Hi Again

As you know I am new to this. I assume that Eagle is senior in GMC / Triton?
Is there any news on whether GMC and Triton will emerge like a Phoenix from the ashes and if it does who will list it?

I gotta say that the look of some of the most recent product has been great - do the chinese do that or is it Ozzie designed. Bur why was the nailer and the big electric plane never advertised. All we got was a jigsaw with a laser...? I use a jigsaw to cut curves!

Your Bunnings toolshop might be looking better but my local Bunnings tool shop is truly appalling......dominated by Ryobi & Ozito rubbish with a smattering of Bosch (cheaper range only) and the odd Makita (but none in cordless)......almost nothing of any quality.

If I want a power tool........I look elsewhere these days.
Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.
