    Default Mecca (aka Triton Manufacturing)

Mecca- Triton Manufacturing and Design Co. Pty. Ltd. 14-18 Mills Street, Cheltenham, Vic. 3192

Take a piece of plain, boring sheet steel, leave it outside the door, and after a time an incredible transformation takes place, turning lead into gold.... oh, I mean plain steel into a mighty orange workhorse... a steed, a stallion of the woodworking fraternity.

But seriously, it is a very interesting place to visit, especially during a site visit where you see it in operation on the workshop floor.

Irrespective, their service centre on the ground floor is definitely worth dropping into- staff are a. knowledgeable, b. helpful, and c. can sell you all the bits that you have accidentally cut, broken or lost at surprisingly low cost, and they have a range of fully warranted seconds available. I got my router table, router, extension table and the money I saved meant the superjaws I also bought was effectively free.

    Stuart,

Don't think the airfare will make buying an option for me - 'sa long way to Chelts from Tweed Heads!!!

Do they offer any of this stuff on the web??

I do a lot of my buying that way and it's generally great.

And I sooo want a router & table!!!

Ironically I bought a new house that I moved into last weekend. A few weeks before I moved in I found out that this new house is about 800m from the Triton factory.

I have since bought about $1500 worth of factory seconds!

Good thing I didn't hear that house was for sale..... must have been my wife tearing the ads out of the paper so I didn't see them!!!

Of course, she is sure that it will only be time before they build a Bunnings over the back fence from our place- she reakons the supply & demand would justify the location!

Re the availabilty of seconds on the web- I've asked about this before, and don't believe they have any plans to do so at this stage. However, I did try to sew that seed, as it would be a great way of purchasing replacement parts, upgrades / mods, and seconds

Personally I don't think that Triton will ever offer stuff direct over the web. The last thing that a company in their position would do is upset their channel. It is impossible to mix a distributor/retail model with direct sales model. Compaq tried this with PCs and abandoned it very quickly. It has also been tried in other industries without luck.

That isn't what they said, but there is definitely no guarantee that they will take it any further either.

    Barnsey

Triton as most would know are owned by Hills Industries.

Hills do have offices in every major city and sell seconds in these shops, at least they do in Melbourne. They may not stock them all the time but you could enquire prior to visiting them. Maybe they can even get a "second" in for you.

    good luck
