Super Jaws Upgrade
Hi all.
Last week I received the upgrade to the s-jaws,so fitted it this week end. All was going well until I was fixing the small Nut to the end of the bar -I tightened it up until the thread of the bolt started to show-through the blue nylon and the shaft broke off Oh Bugger I said or words to that effect!!
Went and had a coffee an idea sprang up? What if I where to cut the old nipple of the old bar, and drill & tap a threadin the centre of the bar? Off to bunnies for metal cutting lube and a pack of pan head self tappers 10g mm.
Cut the end off with hack Saw then drilled a 4.5 mm hole on my Lathe screwed it up tight.! Seems to be working fine I was thinking of putting a piece of threaded rod in with a larger lock nut as this might hold a bit better.
Has any one else had this happen? If so what did you do about it ?
What do you think of my upgrade ?
Cheers Nuggett

This was discussed a while back, Nug, my solution was just buying a couple of the tiny circlips & putting the original shaft back in.
As long as yours works, sounds good

Hi All
Have a set of jaws at home but was unaware of any mod. Is this something I need to know about of is it only related to early models or some such :confused:______________

Have a look at the spares sheet on either the Triton site, or mine. In that PDF, there are 4 picture overlays detailing each of the modifications, and the dates that they were current.
As to why the mod is necessary - a number of people have found (as I have) that the lock shaft can become dislodged (even to the point of dropping out altogether) - in my case when I have released the lock a bit too violently, and lock shaft and springs went everywhere! The mod ensures the lock shaft cannot become dislodged, and hopefully this version proves to be the best. The lock shaft is the key to the superjaws, and is also the 'weakest' point - if it stops working, so does the jaws, so this latest mod (which has been around for a while now - much longer than I realised) looks to be the bees knees.
Like all spares, they can be purchased from Triton / GMC. Not sure of the cost of the upgrade kit (which I think is SJA196), but historically spares from Triton were a surprisingly good price."Clear, Ease Springs"

Thanks for the info Stuart.
Found it on this download page at Triton. The specific (download) link for SJA196 is here for anyone else looking.
