Sadly, it seems to be coming to that.

All Triton power tools have always been manufactured overseas (Taiwan), they have never been made in Australia.

The non-powered tools (workbench, superjaws etc) were always made in Melbourne, but even this is changing - the Superjaws and Multistands (I believe) are heading offshore, and it is the beginning of the trend.

I certainly got involved (and fitted out my entire workshop ) with Triton for a large number of reasons, and one was definitely because it was Australian made. I am not sure if that would have happened if it had not. Before I was really into all this, I knew handtools, but nothing about the larger items, so had to trust something, and that "Made in Australia" was what pushed me over the edge into making the purchase.

Perhaps the next "Stuart" that comes along may not even get into woodworking, or will make too many false starts to bother continuing development, once that final transition to overseas manufacture occurs. It is an unseen cost of loosing local manufacturing.

Maybe with the manufacture of these going overseas we may see a drop in price of some of them - hopefully.
