Triton Project Workbench
I'm thinking of making the workbench in the Triton project book - project No.10. Has anyone else made this?
I note that the end plate is dowelled and glued to the end rails, which my local timber supplier doesn't think is a good idea, because it doesn't allow for timber expansion/contraction across the bench.
I have 2 other workbench plans from Australian Woodsmith, and both recognise this as a potential problem and only glue part of the end plate.
Any comments appreciated.

I'll take that as a 'no', but I just realised I probably should have posted on the workbench forum, just discovered. In any case, I think I''ll have a crack at this one instead:

Have a look at the New Fangled Workbench
Hi Chris,
Before you build your new bench (major project) have a look at the New Fangled Workbench video here. I too built the Triton wooden work bench from the Triton plans when I first got my workcentre 2000 and used an interior door as the top. (Solved wood movement problems). That served me well until I built my New Fangled Workbench.
There are photos of a variant built by forum member Bushmiller here. You should have a look at his posts under Bespoke Workbench.
Also, search for "New Fangled Workbench" in these forums for more info.
I built my version of John Whites - "New Fangled Workbench" about 3 years ago and it is the most useful item in my Shed. (Been working on a second smaller version for the last year.) The work support beam on the front of the bench is constantly in use. Because I didn't have detailed plans, I origionally built my bench as a prototype out of Bunnings 90x45 structural pine using 2 Triton SuperJaws to clamp the wood as I glued it into the wider sections needed. It turned out so well, I haven't had to replace the prototype.
If you build one - use 3/4" pipe and the best pipe clamps you can find. I bought mine from Timbercon.
If you are interested I can provided links to Sketchup files and build blogs on other forums.
Enjoy the workbench journey - whichever way you go.
Have a great weekend.
Regards, Chris
