Camelia Oil was on special last week at Coles so I bought another bottle, "virgin" of-course none of the coarse stuff for me. Besides with only 20c difference in price might as well have the good stuff.
.....can't have too many Camelia Oils.

Love the stuff, just never see rust anymore, my first 750ml bottle started of virgin but now it's all used up.

I like it's real nutty smell on the tools!
I use it in the kitchen as well. I find my wok has never fared better than with the camelia oil wiped on as soon as it is rinsed and dried over the hotplate.prozac

tea bushes are members of the camellia family, camellia oil comes from a camellia bush, in some of coles stores you will find it in the health food area. I have found that some of the staff do not recognise it as camellia oil but if you ask for T-oil they will know what you mean straight away.

The Japanese camellia oil sold for tools isn't pure camellia oil...it has a few other additives.

I'd be interested if you could provide a reference for what the additives are and why they are used.

Thornburn,
I've seen it in several Woolies stores in the cooking oil section - reduced as a clearance item.

From the Axminster website:
Camellia Oil and Applicator
• Imported from Japan where used to protect tools against corrosion
• Natural vegetable oil blended with low viscosity light oil
Cant find any MSDS sheets for this product but the stuff I use feels and smells like its got mineral oil of sort added to it. The Japanese writing on the bottle includes a warning not to drink the stuff.Whatever note you blow youre never more than a semitone away from the correct one....(Miles Davis)

The low viscosity mineral oil is presumably added to make the blend thinner - some in this thread have added turps to do the same. The viscosity of the pure oil seems just right to me but I live in Queensland, perhaps it gets a bit thick in cooler weather?

Thx to someone posting earlier re its availability in Melbourne @ Minh Phat - I unsuccessfully searched local supermarkets but dropped by Minh Phat in Richmond (near corner of Nicholson/Victoria St (on Nicholson)) and found this 500mL bottle for ~$5!
Label says 100% and is also certified organic - my tools will surely appreciate this!
