Default cheapest place to buy Veritas in US

    Hi everyone,
I am hoping someone can tell me the best (cheapest) place to buy Veritas planes in the US. I have a friend coming over to visit who may be able to bring one for me.

    Thanks

    Coxy

It may not be that easy, mate. Depends on where in the US your friend will be visiting. Your challenge may be to actually find a dealer. Woodcraft are in a good many locations but the other Veritas dealers are thin on the gorund.

    Where will he be?
    Cheers,

    Bob

Have you considered having a plane mailed from LV to the friends U.S. address (I assume that the friend is either living there or will have some time at a deliverable address) Often an easier way to go as it does not involve half a day lost getting to a store to pick one up.

    Thumbs up

What John said. It will be easier for everyone.

Your friend does not need to drive 100km to the shop for you.
He won't buy the wrong one by mistake.
It won’t be “sorry mate we just sold the last one yesterday”

You get exactly what you want and it will probably cost you the same.

Sorry Guys I shold have explained it better.

Yes my friend lives in the states but isn't a woodworker. I was going to have the items mailed to him from the cheapest supplier I can find and he will bring it over.

So is the Lee Valley site the cheapest pace to buy or does someone else do it cheaper?

    Appreciate your help

By purchasing out of the States (ex Canada) you avoid any state sales taxes from either country. I can't answer your question on cheaper places, but I would be inclined to get it freighted to your mate if you have trouble locating a store with cheaper prices in the U.S. if you do find somewhere then please let us know. Most importantly when checking prices in the U.S. is to find how much will be added for tax as unlike the GST it is before tax on the sites.

Yes, I had Lee Valley ship a Jack plane to a mate in California and that process was quick and cheap.

    It did on the other hand look a bit like a machine gun in the airport scanners ;-}

Lee Valley is the only source for the Veritas planes. They have no distribution in the US other than some retailers can stock certain widgets of the Veritas brand.

Buy them from LV directly and have them shipped to your friend for transport.

    Take care, Mike

    Thanks everyone,
Sounds like I need to go direct to Lee Valley and buy from them.

    Cheers
