    Default Old cross cut saw.

G'day, I have a couple of old cross cut saws that need a bit of TLC. They are a bit rusty. Any hints on the best way to remove the rust [it's not deep rust] Or more importantly, what not to do. One of the saws is a one man saw about 6 foot long, however the handle is broken. Does anyone have a photo of how it should be so I can make another. Hope to use the saws to cut the top of my 6 x 6 inch red cedar box. Cheers.

    Hi Sawtooth,

For light surface rust just use a scouring pad with some turps, and finish with some wax.

For the handle, is a handle template for a 6 foot cross cut saw you want?

Seems a little bit big for a 6"x6" box.

Maybe you can post some pictures, I have some
handle templates for various saws, but I need more details.

    Regards
    Ray

    Hi Sawtooth,
Is this the type you have.
I can get a close up of the handle if you want.

Thanks Ray and TM. I measured the saw after I posted the thread and looks like I should be a fisherman; it's 4 foot and just like TM's. Can you get a closer pic of the handle TM? I have had them for years, sort of enherited from the family property in south Qld. Also have a broad axe; with the handle; would not like to have to use that all day but must have go with it sometime. Maybe I could use it to square the box!! Thanks for the reply. Cheers

Thanks TM, that's very helpful. Both blades have cleaned up pretty well. It's amazing how we keep putting off something that in the end only takes a short time to do. Actually my son [16] did most of the work. I have no memory at all of the saws being used on the property, but do remember Dad using the home made buzz saw before he bought a chain saw; a big, mean and heavy Canadian.

    Cheers Mate

    Default One Man Croscut Handle

    Hi TM

I know it has been a long time since this was talked about, but
I have been given a priject from a friend to restore one like the photo seen earlier.
The problem is there is no end handle, so I would like a photo and some mounting detail if possible, could you help me out on this one.
