    I reckon they spotted a niche market. Think of all those people who elbow you out of the way. That plane would be perfect for them and their back stroke.

    I'm on the very slow hope of building my Berg gouge chisels from one to a full set. I came across this one E A Berg Eskilstuna wood carving working gouge chisel - eBay Carpentry, Woodworking, Tools, Tools, Hardware Locks, Collectibles. (end time 23-Aug-10 11:18:01 AEST) then I thought what the? some nong has ground the thing the wrongly.

    Well there are incannel and outcannel gouges.
    This looks like an incannel gouge to me.
    They are a little harder to sharpen and can really take big bites when you want them to.

    Could also be called a paring or scribing gouge.
    Not a woodcarving tool more for scibing mouldings to fit or for a patternmaker to pare accurately to a line.
    Patternmakers also use a longer version to make coreboxes so they need a range of different radi.
    Very common tool I must have about a dozen in my kit.

    I just picked up a 1/2 Berg socket chisel from ebay.

    A close look on arrival showed that while the handle was a Berg the blade was a Marples.

    Well, the seller says she'll take it back for a refund but the thought of trotting out a Marg or a Berples in a hand-tool quiz kinda appeals ;-}
