Default Love my second hand store

I have a second hand store not far from me that I drop in on every few weeks to have a browse. I don't always find a bargin but its a better than 50/50 strike rate.

Previously I've found a nice little Diston carcase saw and a Spears and Jackson Tenon saw and today it was this little number from Slack Sellars and Co. Don't know too much about this manufacturer other than they were based in Sheffield from about the 1830's through as late as the 1990's (although some references quote 1960's).

So todays fine is a 12", 12 point tenon saw. It appears to have a steel back under the grim and rust. Not sure how well it will clean up but for $10 I thought it was worth a shot.

First 2 pics are todays find and the others are the previous S&J (after cleaning) and Diston (before cleaning)

    cheers
    WH

Looks like quite a bit of pitting on that S-S blade, WH, but it might clean up. I've got a panel saw with a very pitted blade but it doesn't seem to affect its performance, just looks a bit ordinary. Whatever else, you've got some good raw material to get your sharpening skills up to speed.....

    Cheers,

Looks like a pretty old Disston saw. Is there an eagle on the medallion or a keystone? Hard to tell in the photo.

    Cheers,
    Luke

    P.S. Awesome finds either way

    Cheers,
I don't have any expectation of it being a show pony but hopefully it will clean up enough to be usable.

The last pic (the one with the broken handle) was a Diston I found in the same shop a while ago. Based on the medallion I've dated it somewhere between 1888 and 1896. The S&J has the leap frog logo on the spine and dates somewhere after 1915 but before 1930.
