I got the LA block plane from LV and also bought the larger rear handle and tote and a 45 deg chamfer guide. Also whilst at it I got a couple of different bevelled blades.
The LA block plane is vertually the #3 smoother anyway http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.a...15&cat=1,41182
Wonderful little device - should get a lot of use on my next project - chamfering the studley floor boards I will put up under my awningCheers

Cheap Price
That cheap price from Timbecon for the Veritas LA Block plane, may have already ceased. I can't find it on their website.
On the other hand they have the Veritas spokeshave at $109.90 which is a $50 saving if anyone is interested.
Regards
