Thanks Admiral, that's good confirmation. Luban mentioned to check the fastenings of the tote and knob and they too are consistent with it being type17, one piece solid steel. The bevel side of the blade iron is stamped with 443, which indicates it was made in the last quarter of 1943 so it is probably all original.

    Cheers

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for that. The Record #71 came up a treat. Looks to be in pretty good shape actually.

    Keep at it.

    Cheers

I read that paper too... squirmed every time I saw it listed... Glad its gone to a good home and not to a dealer to split up.

Did you get a story with the box? It was obviously well used, and fairly recently too.
    Cheers, Richard

    G'day R.
The fellow was selling it on behalf of an old friend in his ninties who was making some picture frames until recently, or so the story goes. There are some things in it that don't float my boat so I have listed a few things that don't really fit with a woodworking box.

Here's the 8" sweep J.A.Chapman brace after its been cleaned up in the electrolysis bath. Chapman was bought out by Stanley in 1937 so I think it is earlier than that. After a clean and a squeek with wd40 it was good as new, worked beautifully, best brace I've used, but I've only used 2

    Cheers
    Michael
