Postage costs.
Recently purchased some files from Jamestown Distributors(USA). They had a special price going on Nicholson #49 & #50 Cabinet File. The airmail cost for these items is not given till the completion of the transaction, so I contacted them and was assured the most cost effective airmail service would be chosen. Ended up still costing me U.S $50.75.
A week later I received a rather large box in the post . After opening I found enough packing paper to re wallpaper the main bedroom, and right at the very bottom of the box was my 2 cabinet files. Expensive packaging. These 2 files could have been sent in a flat pack envelope at a fraction of the charged cost.
Emailed the company later on and expressed my disappointment with their customer service. Never received a reply back.
Another learning experience.

Depends on how long they are, there is a size as well as a weight limit on the Flat Rate Envelopes.
The Flat Rate Envelope costs $US12.90, the next up is the Flat Rate Box at $41.95 then another (bigger) Flat Rate Box at 54.95. Both these boxes are limited to 20lbs, the envelope 4lbs.
So depending on weight it may have been better for them to send normal airmail, but that would probably ahve been too much for them to work out on such a small order.
I never place an order until they tell me the total cost, been there done that.
