Hi all, I bought this plane as well. I bought it for the blade, as i fixed up a Stanley # 4 but could not resurrect the blade from severe pitting.
Aldi blade had bad machine marks and was not square, so took a lot of work to fix up, but seems to hold it's sharpness well. I have only been playing with pine, but it's very nice. Also, I tried to slightly file the corners and man, the file got absolutely nowhere at all for AGES, so I think the blade is very hard!
It required only slight modification to fit the Stanley #4, these included slightly lengthening the slot in the blade to fit around the screw in the frog, and slightly widening the slot where the lateral adjust lever fits. Other than that, it drops right in, and works very well in the #4.
Hope that helps someone if they need a cheap new blade for something else.

Sounds like the Aldi blade might be HSS given AyeJay's experience.
Maybe sourced from a similar crowd to Muji's.
Has anyone tried one on a dry grinder to check the spark type?Cheers, Ern

They are down to $10 at Aldi Beaconsfield. I picked up 2 of the planes just to try out the blades.
They fit perfectly with my 50mm wide Mujis. I have attached some pictures of the blades for comparisons. Additionally, their wedges fit the 50mm Muji planes as well.
From looking at the spark while hollowing grinding one of the Aldi blade, I believe they are HSS. I am no expert but I compared them to the illustrations from Leonard Lee's "The Complete Guide to Sharpening".
The blades are very hard for sure. For flattening the backs, I started at P40 because the grinding marks left on the blade is very rough.
Like all my 50mm Mujis, I used the "Ruler Trick" when sharpening/honing one of them. Glad to say, they sharpen to a very good edge.
Tested the blade on some Tassie Oak in my Muji Jack. Looks good to me.
Cheers
Gunn
