A great project
For those who don't subscribe to AWR's newsletter, there's a story in the current issue about a Brisbane lad, Richard Vaughan, who has volunteered his time to teach woodworking techniques in PNG. Good onya, Richard.
Apart from the good-news story, I posted it here because something in the hand-tool category caught my eye about halfway down the page. Draw-knives made from old jointer blades - what a clever idea! I've got a couple of old microtome blades that I was thinking might made good draw-knife material, & now I know how to go about it....
Cheers,IW

Yep, have to agree. Great project.
That is what this thread was about. https://www.woodworkforums.com/f12/hand-tools-required-project-png-198787
A great response from some kind and generous people.
Ian, drilling the blades can be an issue. Richard had some particular drill bits to achieve that. Normal bits will not cut the mustard.
Cheers

Hi Bevan, yep, I'm certainly not going to have at 'em with a regular HSS drill! I have a solid carbide jobbie that might cut the mustard, so to speak. Failing that, it will be back to plan A, which was to silver-solder a brass extension on each end, for the handles. It's only been on the 'to do' list for about 10 years, so far, but I'll get there.......
Cheers,
PS. Drat! I didn't see your notice. I have some spare auger bits and possibly a few other odds & ends that might be useful, but probably too late for you, now?IW

Yeah, a bit late. As per the AWR post, the tools have been delivered for transport. Speak to Richard about what drills he used. I can't remember the brand right now, but I'm sure he would remember. He got them from a certain former toolmaker on the sunny coast.
Cheers

Yeah, missed the boat, didn't I?! If you get up a second round of collections for this or another similar project, I'll be happy to donate. Put a heads-up here in the hand-tools section, for old geezers like me that don't spend much time in other sections of the Forum....
