Stu, I've got a Record #52 on my bench (I just had a look - thought it was a 52½ ). If you want to come out to the valley, you can try it for size and see what you think. Bring a plane to try out....

That brings me to the one major flaw with my workshop space. The access is a little tricky (down a few narrow steps followed by a sharp right into a single narrow door). I don't actually think it would be possible to get a ready-made workbench into there. I know that It's possible to get a small formica dining table in and out some difficulty, but that's about the limit. Once my bench is built and in there, that's where it must stay unless I dismantle it.
Having said that, 2 big vices and some firewood for $100 is pretty good value
You'll see in my first post that I'm planning a dining table as my first project: final assembly of that will have to be in the house...
Vann - cheers for the offer, but I reckon from what everyone else here has said, I'll be good with the 52.

Oh, right, Wellington ......got it.
For our Australian viewers.....there is no easy access anywhere in Wellington as all houses are dug into steep hillsides so they don't blow away in the wind.
NZStu; I clicked on his 'other listings', that's how I found the bench listing. They're pretty good value and might be worth a look first to see how easy/impossible they would be to disassemble. You could sell the other vise on Trademe and you could end up with a bench and vise for just the cost of a vise. Possibly ......Though I do understand the need to buy workshop equipment one bit at a time...........We don't know how lucky we are......

Yes, my house is in fact wedged into the side of a hill. I have nice level access to my front door, but not the workshop. I suppose I can't have it both ways...

I have a 52E on my bench. I bought it new nearly 40 years ago. No trouble at all.
Cheers,
Jim

I won the auction for the local 52 for, rather neatly, $52...
Not too bad and within budget, so I'm happy.
