Default Repairing an old falcon #6

The lateral adjusting lever is quite loose and sloppy on this plane which is in otherwise pretty good condition. Not sure how to go about replacing pin or somehow firming it up.

    Any tips??
Perhaps I should post this on the metalwork forum but theres a lot of serious input on old planes here so i'll see what comes back first.

Seems to me like the rivet needs to be peened a little. Not at all as scary as you think. I did it to my number 3.

Peening is beating the crap out of it with a hammer

    Just joking ,

Using a ball pein hammer gently work the ege of the rivet so it forms a mushroomed head .
Make sure you support the other side of the rivet ,on a vice jaw or a block of steel .

If you use a pop rivet of the correct length you probably wont need to do this .

Another way is to get a piece of round steel rod and drill into the end of it ,just enough to make it like an inverted dome , just go the depth of the drill point .
Place the head of the rivet on the vice jaw or block of steel ,put your domed punch over the other end of said rivet and using a hammer strike the punch .You may have to do this a couple of times .

    Cheers
