My blades have just arrived. I opened them up for a quick check to make sure that all was OK after seeing the comments that have already been posted on various deficiencies.
One item that I need to add, is the Spokeshave Blade, the ' dog bone ' adjusting slots in the blade are only two mm wide & will not fit the adjusters on my shave, they are also a plain oblong in shape. I am very disappointed, as I took the time to advise, that this slot should be 3mm wide when he asked for comment on the sizing of these blades. Apart from fitting the blades to the adjusters they must be slightly oversize & shaped to permit the blade to be tilted slightly, when required during use. It will be very difficult to fix as the whole blade has been hardened and a file will certainly not cut the M2 steel.
Other than that, the blades on first glance appear OK but I see no reason for effusive commentary with regard to either the blade quality nor the process, and I anticipate a lot of work to get the blades fitted and working to a standard I will be satisfied with.
I embarked on the journey over two years ago after I bought an academy M2 spokeshave blade which I was very impressed with, and latter bought a couple of blades off a forum member, from the first order, which whilst not of the same quality as the Academy Blade, after I altered & tuned these they had the same cutting performance.
I became involved here after reading a post that in essence said that lessons had been learn't in the first order, and that this order would therefore be better, and completed in 4 or 6 six months ( can't recall the exact time ) well, without checking back through posts it seems that the posting alone has taken that long, and may have taken even longer if Peter had not stepped up.
My own view on these processes is that the owner of the project must take responsibility for control especially when it involves a group of people with significant investment. I can't accept the argument that has been put forward that others are to blame and circumstance are beyond control. I, & I think others, would have preferred to see some form of contingency nominated, say x% of the cost of a blade which would permit people to see best / worst case on blade costs. People can then make a judgement on whether they prefer to take part in the project & any risk, or simply buy elsewhere, on a commercial basis.
My opinion is that this order has not been effectively controlled, nor has risk been properly identified and controlled and it appears the situation is similar elsewhere.
Peter has taken on a Dogs breakfast which he has dealt with effectively ( & by the sound of made some nice friends at the post office ) Peter should not be left with costs he has to pay out of his pocket.
I will not take part in any similar exercise, & believe they should be left to those in commerce, who have the acumen & experience to do so, and terminated on the Forum

The current bottom line with this project is most have received their blade order and Pagie is out of pocket $120 through no fault of his own.
The blades and chip breakers are good quality (by my standards anyway) and notwithstanding postage costs and the donations we all made, we have still got reasonable quality blades/chipbreakers etc cheaper than if we had purchased them from commercial sources. Yes there have been problems with the overall project as well problems with slot sizes etc but Pagie was not responsible for any of these issues.
I contend that being out of pocket $120 is just one of the costs Pagie has incurred. He travelled to pick up the blades, he sorted out records, he chased up people for names and addresses, he sorted and packed the blades (and very well too) and posted them as well as spending time keeping us up to date via posts on the forum. This was a herculean and time consuming effort.
The hat must go around for Pagie and I suggest everyone with a small order put in say $5 and those who had larger orders put in more. If we ALL do this Pagie will be reimbursed and hopefully might have enough to cover his own blade order.
Pagie this will mean more work for you, but I suggest you send a PM to everyone with your bank account details so that everyone can “toss something in the hat”.
Thanks to all those involved with initiating the order and getting the work done and three cheers for Pagie.

Peter
Could you tell me how the blades will be distributed for the Canberra mob?
Could they possibly be picked up from a central point to reduce postage costs?
When this is over, does anyone think there may be a chance to analyse the process and if anyone wanted to do any thing like this in the future we would all be better informed? By 'analyse' I mean without looking to blame or criticise, just so we are all better informed and know what we may be getting into.
Thanks again for all your help (and to all concerned)

After posting the above at work, When I arrived home my blades were here.
They look good, although the chipbreakers will need a slight tweak [bend] near the end.
Unlike the Rob Cosman IBC and Lie Neilson chipbreakers which have a slight lip machined at their ends to provide clearance, these are a just like another [shorter] blade, so when they are together there is a small gap at the tip. I'll mount one in a plane and see if the gap closes before tweaking.
Thanks again for all the work done. Happy to kick in for postal costs.

Pagie should in no way be disadvantaged for stepping up here.
Peter, please provide me with a list of people who had goods posted by you, along with your bank details and I will forward that to all members on the list.

Thanks to all those involved with the most recent (and problematic) developments of this blade order.
Can I get some confirmation that mine have been sent as I have no mention yet in the mail and have been home all week.
Thanks,
Nick

My experience is that Austpost from Melbourne to the Gold Coast ,and by the look of the other expectant Brisbane replies - SEQ in general, can take up to a week. It all comes road freight and has to go through at least two mail centres. I guess GC stuff goes to BNE first and then comes down the M1 to Burleigh MC.
Waiting patiently in Burleigh....

Peter
I think that you should be properly recompensed for what you have done, and not left out of pocket. However this is not yet over, & before I commit to anything I want to see someone take the responsibility, of producing a proper final account. I and others have already provided additional funds, which did not appear to produce any positive effect, and I don't think we should be doing so again until we know there is a finish to the process.
I emphasise that this is no reflection on you as I think you have produced something out of what was clearly a mess, and if necessary I am prepared to put my hand in my pocket on your behalf. However I think everyone is entitled to see this whole thing properly, & finally sorted out, and not just left to continue to stagger from crisis to crisis.
I am not looking to blame anyone, as there is no future in that, and I certainly will not gain any satisfaction from that.
I have my blades, and I suppose I could just go off and sort these out, & cease to communicate, but I prefer to see this correctly finished.

happy to chip in some extra.
However Pagie has already said amounts originally paid for postage for a few (not sure how many) orders including some sent overseas did not go close to what the postage actually cost him. I would agree with Denim that it would be good at least for these people to be contacted and asked to pay what is due.
I think the central pick up coordination point for Canberra has been arranged. But happy to help out if needed.

I too will be happy to help make sure Pagie is not out of pocket on this one but I'd like to make sure I get hold of my blades first.
Still missing a 2" blade and chipbreaker and a spokeshave blade. Not sure if these are in the post yet but hopeful.
