I voted for Option 4 as my preference, but will be equally happy with 1.

Hi TS,
Apologies for being late to the party.
Put me down for 4 blades 50mm wide 6mm 100mm long
Are these going to be tapered? I'm happy with either straight or tapered, but my preference would be for a tapered blade.
Regards
Ray

Hello TS, Option No1 as they were originally intended will be fine, or No4 second choice, these preferences appear to be the general concensus.
If I were to let you know in the next 24 hours or so can I add more blades at this late stage?
Ill go back to the original order I posted and through my notes to see if I shouldnt get a few more while the opportunity is there.
thankyou
regards
GM

I have just finished the CAD for the plane blades and I am working on the Shoulder Plane Blades at the moment.
Here is the list of how many blades have been ordered per thickness (Remember that the thickness listed is pre ground, after grinding they will be 4 mm and 6 mm thick:
We need the following quantities per size from the 4.5 mm sheet as follows:
- 5 @ 15 x 4.5 x 60 mm
- 6 @ 25 x 4.5 x 80 mm
- 6 @ 30 x 4.5 x 80 mm
- 2 @ 40 x 4.5 x 50 mm
- 12@ 40 x 4.5 x 100 mm
- 1 @ 40 x 4.5 x 200 mm
- 5 @ 50 x 4.5 x 60 mm
- 10 @ 50 x 4.5 x 100 mm
- 1 @ 50 x 4.5 x 150 mm
We need the following quantities per size from the 7 mm sheet as follows:
- 5 @ 30 x 7 x 80 mm
- 11 @ 40 x 7 x 100 mm
- 2 @ 40 x 7 x 150 mm
- 34 @ 50 x 7 x 100 mm
- 12 @ 50 x 7 x 150 mm
- 7 @ 50 x 7 x 200 mm
- 7 @ 60 x 7 x 100 mm
- 3 @ 60 x 7 x 150 mm
- 2 @ 60 x 7 x 200 mm
Once I finalize the CAD for the shoulder plane blades I will send everything to Wigley Engineering to find out how much space we have left on the sheets and for a quote.
Shoulder Plane Blades
Basilg, Harry R, and myself are interested in Shoulder Plane Blades, is anyone else? I am thinking of making them in metric equivalents of 3/4" 1" and 1 1/2" widths.
Here is the basic the CAD drawing for a shoulder plane blade. I however would like these to fit the HNT Gordon shoulder planes, if you have one of them can you post their dimensions that I am looking for.
Attachment 147421
We may have to cut the shoulder plane blades using a waterjet instead of laser, as the laser cannot cut anything below 12 mm without causing the decarbonizing of the tool steel.

Shoulder Plane Blades.
Helmut,
I would be interested in the shoulder plane blades if you are going to the effort. I can't help with the dimensions though.
Thank
Andrew

Helmut
The drawing & dimensions I provided several months ago, are for a traditional infill shoulder plane & will not fit an HNT plane.
As far as I aware this style of blade is unique to HNT, and is much shorter than other blades, as due to the higher bed angle the blade protrudes out of the top of the plane, rather than out the rear as with Infills, LN or LV . If these blades were made longer to suit the traditional infill planes, owners of HNT planes could cut them back to suit. However, I cannot say how successful the much narrower blade body would be in an infill plane, and the blade would not suit a LN or LV plane.
If you only intend making blades to suit HNT please let me know as this is not what I am seeking, and will need to make alternative arrangements.

Andrew I have recorded your choices.
I have sent the CAD for the blades to the laser cutter, I will call them on Thursday to chase up a quote and to see how full the sheets are.
I have sent an email to Rippon asking for a grinding quote, and I will call them on Thursday as well.

TS,
I'm in the market for a straight edge about 4mm x 400mm long. I was looking at things like planer blades but there all too short.
I've no idea if it's economical or not, but if you've spare material I'd be interested in two of these.
Thoughts?
