Where can I find Titan registered firmers?
I've been spending a lot of time trying to find more of these. Initially I got a few of the more common sizes in a 'mixed bag' from eBay, and sold off the rest. I also bought a few from eBay individually. But now even the mighty flood of old tool junk on eBay seems to have slowed to a trickle - at least so far as these are concerned. And, I've never seen one at a flea market, neither here (Oakleigh) or in my home town (Bendigo/Epsom).
Tell me, oh wise ones, where are these old buckets of rusty Titans of which you speak?!
Oh, and I know I don't need a matching set. I didn't mean to become a (glances furtively over shoulder) collector, I swear.Cheers,
Eddie

What sizes do you need?
I've got a complete set now so I can move on some doubles.
Like so many things they seem to show up when you stop looking.
With so many good new ones available now, I'm sure more old Titans will continue to surface. In the mean time use and enjoy the sizes you have, you don't need them all!
Best wishes
Steve

Almost every garage sale I've been to has at a Titan 1" registered firmer. If there are tools there'll be a Titan chisel. Any good market with a tool bloke should have a few Titans laying about. Keep your eye on ebay too. They pop up with some regularity.
Cheers,
Virg.

I'm looking for 1/8, 1/5 and 7/8" sizes.
I also don't have anything over 1", but I'm not so fussed about that for now.
As you can see, I found the common sizes very quickly, but the others are proving surprisingly elusive.
If anyone has one of these they'd consider throwing my way for a dollar or two, of course please let me know.
I suppose apart from that, flea markets sound like my best bet. I'll have to recruit my old Dad; he lives just near the Epsom market and loves fossicking there anyway. The market near me hasn't been any good for chisels (though I have found some nice planes there...)Cheers,
Eddie

Sorry, I meant 3/8".
Someone posted an old catalogue a while back listing a 7/8" size, so such creatures must exist...
They go up in 1/8" increments until 1", then 1/4" increments from there, I think.Cheers,
Eddie

Here's a thread with a catalog picture that covers the titan varieties .....

Good luck collecting the whole set.
As SG mentioned the 1/8" can be hard to find.
I haven't seen a 2" in the wild either.
I have a 7/8", but have no doubles unfortunately

Check out Peter's website - forum name pjr.
A Titan Chisel and Gouge Index
2" is more common than 1 3/4" - the 1/8", 7/8", 1 3/4" are probably the rarest. I have seen enough of them though to give you confidence you'll get them. Never seen a bevelled 2" though.
Patience is the key - there's no rush but the 1/8" and 7/8" do come up. No spares here of those either sorry.
Just to throw a spanner - the nominal sizes in the catalogues don't include some sizes that are out there - maybe quality control problems in Launceston back in the 50's, maybe deliberate. I have a 3/16", 3/32" and seen a 5/32". Here's an old thread of Scribbly's with a pic of mine:

You will find them - I often see them at Wantirna market in various states of repair. Rare to see a 1/8 but they do come up on Ebay - three in the past few months. You will find 5/8 and 7/8 too, and the occasional big size.

titans are GO!!!!
Titans are great chisels. Every time I use mine I am astounded how good they are and what a robust tool they are. I have a 1/8 and a 7/8 but it took a while to find, especially the 1/8 and you can expect to pay a lot more than a dollar or two for it. I'm not sure why you'll need a 2" except to just have it, I have a couple of other brand 2" chisels and use one rarely. You could also try the hand tool preservation society which has a tool sale 3 or 4 times a year. The last one was 3-4 weeks ago and there are always in a primary school in hawthorn. There are always plenty of titans there in various conditions and of course prices. I don't use the 1/8 much either but it is a sweet tool to use when I do.
cheers and happy hunting
frank
