Tool find gloat
I have been doing the finishing on a Hollywood style landscape in North Beach over the past week and had a load of rubbish to take to the tip. Brought it all home last night then went off to the Recycling station first thing this morning. the rubbish included the clients old washing machine so I had reason to go to the scrap metal bay. How happy was I when I see the last visitor had dumped a heap of old files, rasps and other tools - including another Titan to add to my collection.
I know it sucks without photos but the camera is at the clients so I will have to wait till tomorrow for pictues.

Just had a look at what was actually there and there is a set of Moore and Wright calipers and a 1 inch bevelled edge Ward that has an 8 inch long blade and is quite light amoungst other things - photos tomorrow.

Some people just deserve a for the stuff they throw out but then they deserve a for giving us poor blokes scavenging rights, same for the occasional treasure you find at garage sales.
A well deserved gloat.
I'm replacing my Titans slowly with Bergs (don't hold your breath) and will be offloading them.

Hi Burnsy,
Good score mate indeed. I actually like the old Wards. Have a few, not quite as hard as the Titans though but quicker to sharpen.
Cheers

What a great find. The chisels have plenty of life left in them (with new handles of course ) and looks like there are some other handy little goodies in there as well like the engineers square and dividers.
Lucky Prick!! The dump here has just converted to a brand new waste transfer station that is permenantly staffed. Means no more dump diving anymoreHave a nice day - Cheers

This dump is the same, these just happened to be right at the front of the scrap metal pile and my Trade Mate hid what I was doing from the six guys working on the other side of the refuse channel (being short is good some times. I must say I did not know that there were tahat many types of metal file available and there is two of most types.

Hi Burnsy,
Gee mate, that little pile on the bench looks like what is in my tool bag. That Ward is a beauty. I have never come accross a Ward parer that long before, hard enough anyway and normally short or banged up.
Damn good find you lucky barstool. Is handy to have lots of files I reckon, always some spot hard to get too that a little file can manage.
Keep up the good work !
Cheers

Burnsy,
Just out of interest, long bevel edge chisels like in you pic are typically known as Paring chisels, never to be used with a mallet, just by hand. Yours pictured looks to be pretty good.

I had a play on the lathe I recently aquired this arvo and knocked up a handle for the Ward parer out of a piece of marri I milled last year. I managed to get the handle on slightly crooked but it is crooked in the right direction for a right handed person to use so I am pretty happy with my first attempt at rehandling. Pops was right it certainly is a beautiful chisel. I will have to get some of Neils wax as I finished it in linseed oil and it needs someting else to really make the grain stand out. I also need to find some brass pipe to use for ferrels as the old ferrel does not really do it justice.

Hi Burnsy,
Now I am really jealous. That Ward is looking beautiful. Well done.
But,... mate, it will just look out of place with all your Titans, a propper mess up of your collection. You had better let me take it off your hands, where it would look better with My Wards. You will feel much better with it gone.
I would think the Marrie would make nice handles for the parer, good weight and all. Marrie also samds very well IMO. I like very smooth handles for parers, like the Boxwood of old Marples. Your handle looks comfrtabe. Onya !!!
Keep an eye out for those next treasures. Have not seen any Titans worth buying for you at the markets lately.
Cheers
Pops
