Veritas Low Angle Jack for me!!!
After much reading/thinking(this forum/AWR) and more reading/thinking over the past couple of months, thanks to this forum and especially(spelling?) to Derek for is informative and interesting reviews/opinions, I have decided to opt for the Low Angle Veritas Jack.(with the extra blade angles)
Why you may ask?
Well because of its versatility, especially in cranky wood, and end grain(shooting board) ,it will be ready to use out of the box. I also like what I think has an easier adjustment mechanism.
Thanks for helping me with my decision.
Hopefully I can afford it by the Brisbane woodshow!!

Have a look at the current Timbecon special if they still have some left. Probably the best price you will get in Aus.

GO4IT! I find that it's usually the first out of the cupboard - the Stanley's keep thier wax on......
My previous favorite was the WW2 #5, so there ya go, my name should be Jack. The only way to get rid of a [Domino] temptation is to yield to it. Oscar Wilde
.....so go4it people!

I would be very suprised if you ended up regretting the decision Buzzer.
I have the Low Angle Smoother, with the standard blade, and intend getting the high angle (38 degree) blade. Must admit I have not found I have needed it yet, but I am sure I will find a reason.

Good point AB. I did think the catalogue price in Oz retailers was competitive with private imports, perhaps in response to the amount of people getting them in privately.
Maybe it is no longer as attractive profit wise?
Hope MIK still intends to stock them.
I think its time for LV to set up an Oz franchise. (trust me on this LV )
If only one store was set up, LV should request profit sharing with the airlines.... I know I'd do a flying visit

Hi Guys!
You go on some weird tangents here!!! We are dropping the range of Veritas planes. That is all. Every other Veritas item that we stock (i.e. shown in the 2004 catalogue or 2005 supplement or online) is still available from us and will continue to be. We have our own reasons for dropping the range of planes but it is definitely not anything to do with the product or any issue we have with Veritas in the slightest. Its a great range of planes, but we have decided to no longer carry them.
We are keeping the spokeshaves, low angle block (and related accessories) as well as their cabinet scraper.
And I think the rumour about Northwoods might be a little off the mark as well...

Thanks for the link, Rob. I never thought of searching for a Veritas site - this is a great compliment to your Lee Valley site.
