Default Weird Tool - Supa Spanner - info anyone?

    Hi there
Found this one at the bottom of Dad's toolbox.
Tried Googling it but came up empty.
Has anybody out there got one? or maybe know the history of this little sucker?
Looks to be a multi-fit spanner of some kind, probably from the 80's but more than that I know not.
    All feedback welcome.
    thanks for looking.

How long have you had it Dave? Were they a popular/fad thing?

not sure if they were ever popular but I've had mine for donkeys years, back when Kingchrome were the cheapy's, and i have seen them still for sale in the cheaper type stores, I bought a couple of sets of sidchrome spanners and sockets and will use nothing else although I have heard some bad things coming out about them!

thanks to you both for that very quick response.
looks like this one goes in the junk pile of assorted cheapies that found their way in with the good stuff.
now for the rest of the spanners

I also have one somewhere, bought it back in 1980 to remove some buggered nuts, which it is excellent at doing. (Also buggers brand new ones too!)
    Haven't used it since.

don't fancy having my perfectly good nuts buggered, so in the bin it goes.

Hi.. I could be mistaken, but i seem to recall there was a better quality version that came out before this one..
Like most things.. it wasn't long before the inferior clones popped up !..

    Cheers .. Kenny

I used to have a set of strangely shaped open-end spanners. Like the cheapo you have, they were made to exert pressure on the flats of the nuts and each one would fit a size or two above and below. However the quality of these was excellent.
They disappeared from my car while we were overseas. I still miss them as they were great for rounded over nuts and took metric, whitworth and SAE in their stride.
    Cheers,
    Jim

They're a nice idea, but need a lot of working room around it, otherwise it's either useless or annoying.

Most of them are found in 'hobbyist' tool environments like Woolies and Kmart, designed for people who only need to round off a few nuts a year. Sold alongside screwdrivers with sand casting texture right down to the tip.
