Table extensions
Hi all,
I'm upgrading my jointer/thicknesser at the end of the year to a Hammer A31. This machine has the option for table extensions on the outfeed and/or infeed side.
My question is, if you could have only one extension on one side, what would it be? Outfeed or infeed?
Many thanks,
Andy

So it already has an infeed and outfeed and you can put an extra table onto either?
I've got the C/tec 381 and as heavy and solid as it is it doesn't need an extension, but having written that, I'd go for the additional extension on the infeed as sometimes you'll have something massive to put through and it'll help in not having to grunt and heave so much as you support the weight until it feeds through.

It's not a table as such, it's a table extenion. They are 150mm wide and either 400mm or 800mm long depending on which one you buy.
The Hammer's table is 1400mm long so with the extensions you can have a table length of up to 3000mm long if you like.
Now these extensions are expensive so I was looking at getting atleast one to start with and was wondering where people would put it, infeed or outfeed? They can be changed to either end but was curious to hear what people have to say.
Thanks
Andy

Are the extensions for the jointer or thicknesser? You wouldn't really need them for the thicky but for the jointer they would be handy. If I had to have one only I would put it on the outfeed side. It's important to maintain constant pressure on the outfeed of a jointer.
Edit: Just watched the video, you can use them on both. Those were the droids I was looking for.

On a jointer I would certainly go for the outfeed side if I had to make a choice.
My age is still less than my number of posts

Andy, I've got the big brother to the Hammer model, and I have the extension you are considering, so I think I should offer my experience -
I mount mine on the outfeed of both the thicknesser, and the jointer. It has proved to be VERY useful to have, and would definitely say that outfeed is preferable.
FYI on the AD741 (my Felder model) the thicknesser bed already has the required cutout milled in, to mount the extension table on the outfeed. I just needed to buy an additional bolting component to mount it to the outfeed of the jointer bed. I've been very, very pleased with that decision ever since I made it, and would do the same again.
(you know where to find me if you want to see it in action, and come and have a play )
TN.
