    Default Another table saw quandary

I’ve said a couple of times in postings I’m thinking of a new TS. Well Fridays the day for the purchase. I had looked at the Jet <st1:metricconverter productid="10”" w:st="on">10”</st1:metricconverter> contractors saw (cast iron wings) ages ago and recently I’d decided on the Caba-tec <st1:metricconverter productid="10”" w:st="on">10”</st1:metricconverter> sliding table saw (CT-10ST).<o>

</o>I’ve just revised the Jet saw and seen that it looks a better built machine for a $100 more, its down side is the out rigged motor because it’ll be stored against the shed wall so 1200mm deep means it’ll stick out 500mm more than the adjoining bench.

<o></o>I was taken with the Carba-tec sliding table and the fact the induction motor is mounted under the table, so it will fit tight against the wall. I’m wondering if the sliding table feature is really worth while and how the plastic runners will hold up to (1) wear and (2) saw dust. Also wonder about the fact the sliding table is aluminium???<o>

</o>Any comments might help this confused buyer - cheers<o></o>

JET, work out another method for storage.
Or save some more and get a cabinet saw, like a tsc10hb?
You checked out what Leda has to offer?

You see thats what I need - a prod to make me think. Jet could be stored front againt wall and motor sticking out - it'll not be in a "pathway". Or, after putting small shed up I'm getting niffty with the angle grinder - I could cut an opening in shed wall and box-out for it???

    Any comments re Jet/Cabatec units

The size of the sliding table makes it's benefit much less than a larger sliding table.

The quality of the Jet will be much higher. You would regret not buying the Jet for a mere $100 more.

Dont know about the Jet I got the 10HB that Harry talks of with the sliding table attachment... Im still of two minds about the sliding table attachment... its long its awkward its in the way most times and cause its in the way it has a penchant for belting the snot out of your knees and thighs if you dont have enough room to say nothing of the wee leg at the end of the run tripping you up!... the tables too small and has bowed a tad in the centre... but its there if I need it as long as I dont mind going up to the sea tainer and getting it out lugging it down the hill to the shed and refitting it to the saw... it got taken off when I belted my bung knee into it as I wandered past one day... as I said it takes up a fair amount of room ... most use so far has been for cuttin ply sheets but I do cut some longer lengths of timber using it... however its in the way most of the time so unless youve got shyteloads of room to spare consider not getting one and just make a dismantable table with rollers to put up when needed and tuck away somewhere when not

AND... if your going to buy a table saw with a sliding table why would you get a small shed attach it to the main shed cut an opening in it and stick it in there? seems to me that speaks volumes about your spacial area availability Check you spacial area mate!! Before you buy it... could be you would fast find it inconvienient and in the way... with it tucked into a wee shed how will you utilize the table or sliding table? Think about the space a table saw needs without the sliding attachment then double that spacial area stretch it some and thats what your gonna need

Not bein negative mate just wondering and giving my view based on my experience is all... Even given all that I know I made the right discision getting the 10HB AND the sliding table attachment... so have at it and enjoy!
Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

I have used a 10" saw with a big sliding table and an Elektra site saw with a small table thing. Now I have the TSC-10HB without any slider. I put the router table on the left and I have an outfeed table in front. Works well.

Your comment about the motor and the wall... you'd want to have plenty of room out the front otherwise how do you rip a long plank? Fact is, you need a lot of room all around the saw. I have a roller door on an inside wall in my shop to give me working space with long sticks. Maybe you have a special sort of requirement and are working with short timber. Did I miss something?

Dingo, mate – you got hold of the wrong end of the spanner – the small shed is my junk/store room – you’d be puffin muffins – to try and get a decent size table saw in there. My main shed is a 6 x <st1:metricconverter productid="6 m" w:st="on">6 m</st1:metricconverter> double garage thing and having built the little un I now have a nice clear corner.

Thanks for your comments on your 10HB – I’ve made the decision to go for the Jet – can not wait to pick it up tomorrow.

Murray - perhaps I'm not writing these threads clearly enough - the TS will be "stored" in a corner but pulled out to the centre of the workshop when used. The TS at the moment will not get a huge amount of use - so this will not be inconvient and the Jet has a pair of wheels to help but may make a complete trolley for it anyway.

You know once you get that JET home he's going to want more friends... and they must be a creamy white colour with red/black stripes!

Con - have sent you a PM, your very welcome if you'd like to come out here?

Just picked up the TS; Bl**dy heavy box - definately a two man lift. I'm going to be very busy tomorrow bolting it all together. I bit the bullet and also bought a mobile base set which also needs bolting up.

    Default Final results

Well, the Jet TS is now running like a pussy cat ... it just purr’s.
    • Pic 1 - for those who I confused with location this is where the TS will live when not in use, notice mobile base. Will move into centre of floor for cutting use and connect to DE – see pic 3
    • Pic 2 - TS
    • Pic 3 – Ducting to centre of shed. Tried to use standard angles but of course it wasn’t. Will use a bit of flexi-hose at left side to do the sweep and hold the blast gate. I’m awaiting more adaptors from Tradelink to finish this off.
I’ve put an 80 tooth blade on the TS to give a fine cut with the MDF/Ply I currently use and of course it breezes through this stuff. And for the really eagle eyed, yes currently the mobile trolley with all the drawers – top two get locked out by the fence rails … I’m working on that one. May swap the Drill press trolley into that position.
