Table saw setup
I have a second hand SCM 12" cabinet saw with a sliding table attachment on the side.
Currently it does not cut straight. I have purchased a couple of books on setting up a saw, however, being very inexperienced, it's not easy to get to cut straight
My aim is for the saw to:
Cut straight to mitre slot
Fence parallel to blade (or touch off as book says)
Sliding table parallel to blade.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a service in Melbourne where someone could come out and set my saw up properly.
I spoke to JC Walshe in Tullamarine but they didn't sound overly thorough as I told they basically adjust the mitre on the sliding table to run at 90 degrees to the blade without worrying about fence and mitre slot.

See if you can get hold of a DVD entitled "Mastering your Table Saw". The Brisbane City Council Library carries a copy so I expect that Melbourne should have one. Can't think of the author offhand but it is published by Taunton Press. Should be very helpful.
Good luck

Another DVD that looks good is the new 5 disc set on Tablesaw Setup and safety from Hendrik Varju
You can hear a review by Matt Vanderlist and two lengthy discussions between Matt and Hendrik at Matt's Basement Workshop
You should also have a look at how Stuart set up his table saw - look on Stu's Shed there are several posts ond videos on his new TSCheers

ab1, there are podcasts that cover this matter as well if you Google that. But the basic story with table saws and aligning the blade to be parallel to the mitre track is to adjust the table. There will be bolts that hold the top to the base, and there is a small amount of adjustment available there. Get a combination square and use the slider in the track, adjusting the protrusion of the ruler to the blade and check the distance at the entry and exit points of the saw blade. (Do this on the flat of the blade, not the teeth!)
Google "The Wood Whisperer" and find the podcast that covers this subject. It's free and the podcasts are both informative and fun.

A damned fine teacher too; he's about the best I've found (so far) at youtube.

I'm mystified tho, ab1 said "scm table saw." I wonder whether he means sliding compound mite saw or tablesaw.
Brand and model would clarify, and maybe help with others' replies.

It's a SCM Invincible 12" 3 phase 3hp table saw. It has a sliding table on the side too.
I have some books on how to set the table saw up but I am keen to pay an experienced person to get the saw spot on for me.
I figured with all the businesses with table/ panel saws out there, there must be some market for this type of service.

One of the forum members might even offer to do it on mutually agreeable terms, I recall someone suggesting he'd collect and deliver some goods for a six-pack or so, but Melbourne is a big place. I suggest you review your profile, and say "Mt Waverley, Victoria" or whatever. Someone in Mt Waverley isn't likely to volunteer to drive to Fishermans Bend.
I saw a video at youtube, it didn't seem to me a big deal. Similarly, someone's more likely to recommend a business if they know it's in your area.
