Default Table saw top out of true - epilogue

I took the porter cable 3812 back to carbatec last tuesday and trent [sales manager] had actually managed to aquire a nice flat top for it. He duly sweated and grunted out the back for 45 minutes replacing the top while I strolled lustfully around the carbatec showroom picking out the bandsaw that is next on my list. I know he had to really dig deep for this top as porter cable had told me direct to get stuffed as the saw table was inside their spec.

I have no complaints about the great service out there at carbatec in melbourne and will have absolutely no hestitation in making my next major purchase from them.

The porter cable saw by the way is a real nice machine with the best fence and mitre I saw on any contractor style saw. Believe me I looked at many.

Well I hope this works for you but I can't say that I agree with you. If PC claim a table top that is not flat is within spec it doesn't matter how good the fence and mitre guage is, it will cause problems for fine woodworking. I went through this once before and it drove me to the point of distraction.

    My priorities now are:

1 - flat top (no, I mean flat, not close enough)
    2 - no arbor float
    3 - true fence
    4
    5
    6 etc

Glad it all worked out. Enjoy.

    I agree and that's why I complained.

The difference between PC, Delta, Makita etc and the cheapos is their service and guarantee of their better quality. You'd have to argue that if they resist providing that quality and service then the GMCs, Ryobis etc then become a lot more competitive. It is good to see you chase them to provide the value you wanted.
