Table Saw, How Much Do I have to spend
G'day All,
First post here, I've recently got hold of a bunch of 3x4 Jarrah 4ft beams and want to build an outdoor table. After a bit of research I've found it looks like I need a table saw for ripping them in half.
I was looking in Bunnings at the Makita MKTL100 for $529 but am a bit put off by the negative feedback on the forums here. I don't need anything super accurate but dont want to have to keep taking it back for repairs either. I found these HAFCO ones,
85mm cutting 2000W motor $385
W442 | ST-13 Table Saw | machineryhouse.com.au
Will this do the job and has any one used one of these any feedback? Otherwise can any one offer suggestions on what is best for about the $500 mark? I need something with minimum 85mm cutting prefferably 95 or 100mm (thats why I looked at the Makita)
My other thought is getting a 270mm circular saw and attaching it to a work bench, would that work or am I dreaming?
Cheers

Or join your local mens shed and use their big table saw. for maybe 70-100 bucks for a years membership. Use the table saw to rip it. Their big thicknesser to make it nice and flat. Use their big bandsaw for the fancy bits.

what he said.
I don't think you'll get very far with such a large cut in Jarrah on a cheap saw - they just don't have the grunt.
The added bonus of joining a group is the collective knowledge of the other members.

If you plan on ripping them in half I assume you will want to cut the the 3" side in half which means you will need a 100 mm cut?
Even a 3HP saw with a 100mm max cut will struggle to cut these in half.
Making 100 mm deep cuts in jarrah with a circular really requires a 350 or 400 mm blade.
You might be better off with a bandsaw. Even a 14" BS will rip jarrah albeit slowly.
