Drill press cleaning and protection
Hey all. So i was given this GMC drill press from a friend. It has been unused for many years but operates great. I want to clean up all the surface rust and protect it from future corrosion. Any tips on what products I should buy?

You could use sandpaper and steel wool to clean it up. Even crc. I wouldn't bother too much I have n el cheapo ryobi and it gets used when I need it and left in the corner when I don't.

Those green nylon scouring pads are pretty good for the purpose.
Also you'll need lots of elbow grease.
For protection afterwards, I use SilverGlide,
( http://www.carbatec.com.au/silverglide-dry-slip_c19708 ),
or wax on the table and regular applications of Camellia oil,
( http://www.carbatec.com.au/camellia-oil_c6250 ),
on the chuck, quill and post.
Sorry, I couldn't find a link to Carbatec's elbow grease.... Steve

Thanks for the suggestions! ended up using those green scouring pads from super cheap auto, a can of degreaser and some spray on lubricant that worked quite well. image album below
