Default Drive Belt Tracking on Performax 16-32 Drum Sander

I am having trouble getting the drive belt (the belt that runs over the platen) to track on a 16-32 sander.

I have tensioned the belt according to the instructions and set the belt running to check the tracking. Following the instructions (tighten the extension bolt on the side the belt tracks towards and, at the same time, loosen the extension bolt on the side the belt tracks from) seems to make the tracking worse. I also seem to have one side of the belt tighter than the other (by a noticeable amount of slack on one siide of the belt that is on the side the belt is tracking away from). I have measured the amount of adjustment on both sides and although not perfect (due to the point of measurement), each adjuster was within about 0.3 mm.

The sander also has some "trackers" which fit under the bed and look like they attempt to hold the drive belt on track, but with so much difference between the two sides, I would have thought they would wear out or damage the drive belt (which I suspect was the cause of the original failure).

Has anyone else struck this probelm ?

Hints, tips or suggstions greatfully received

    Regards

    Jason

Had another go at getting the belt (conveyor) to track. Unfortunately, no improvement.

This is what I did today.

    1. Checked and adjusted the drive roller to be parallel with the top of the table.
    2. Checked the distance between rollers. There was about 1-2 mm difference, with the long side being the one the belt was tracking towards.
    3. Checked and adjusted the driven roller (at the outfeed end of the table) to be parallel with the top of the table.
    4. Reversed the conveyor belt (side of the conveyor belt that was on the open side of the sander is now on the closed side.
I even went as far as putting as much tension as I dared on the side the belt drifted towards and loosening the other side totally to try and get the belt to track properly with no success. All this did was create a bulge in the conveyor belt that was able to contact the sanding drum.

I installed the ceramic trackers underneath the table as per the instructions. While this forces the belt to track properly, it tends to wear the tracker and I suspect will ultimately damage the conveyor belt.

Did some research on the internet and found this is not an uncommon problem, but with no real solutions.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Jason
