Everlast Welder
Has anyone got the Everlast Powertig 230 EX AC/DC welder, or have used one, if so how did you find it? I like the look of the specs on it but wondered how it performs? My situation is that I only
have single phase 15 amp power points in my workshop.

If I recall, Everlast in Sydney have evaluation units. Maybe see if you can get one . From what I have heard tho, they are pretty good.

Just so you are aware, that machine draws 22.6A @ 230A output, so on a 15A circuit you should be able to deliver 150-160A, which is plenty for your usage.
If this is destined to replace your UNITIG, then I would urge you to try and sort out the issues you are having, as a new welder will not sort out operator error or inexperience, no disrespect intended.
$2000 is a lot of money for a machine that originates in China, although Everlast do have a better reputation than many.

I have had an experienced Tig welder look at my welder, and was not very impressed with it, and to be honest I think he was to polite to tell me what he really thought of it.

Okay, what did he find? I've used a couple of the unitigs and they were okay. Have you had it since new or was it a second hand unit?
$2000 seems way to much for the Everlast in my opinion as there are TIG welders available for less - not Ebay specials, but reputable brands.
If there is an issue with your welder, it shouldn't cost too much to sort it.
An Everlast seems to be a good welder from all reports, there are other options out there starting at $1200 and working on up from there.

He found it very hard to reduce the amperage, and the arc was very patchy as he called it. When you say have a look at other reputable brand welders, which ones do you suggest?
I did buy the unitig new and was never happy with it.

Cigweld, Lincoln, Token Tools, Magnum Welders. Steer clear of the cheap BOC machines.
I have quite a soft spot for Lincoln gear, have played with the Magnum Welders at a few field days and had enough to do with the BOC machines enough to know I am not impressed.
In your situation, it may be worth a few extra dollars to buy from a shop front rather than online where you are often on your own as far as backup goes.
I still reckon there is something amiss with your UNITIG.

Thanks Karl for that, I would love to buy a Lincoln or Miller etc, but too expensive for what I do as a hobbyist.
Rather than spend $s on my welder, which could be rather costly, I would sooner put it into a higher spec, new, Everlast 230 EX. with a 5 year warranty.

Take a look at the Token Tools unit, they have the 5 yr warranty and local support. Price wise also very competitive
Regards
Alan.

Thanks to all for your threads.. I spoke to Peter today at Tokentools, and after reading your opinions on this site I ordered the Metalmaster AC/DC 210 pro welder, which he had in stock and I should receive in next few days.

A bit late seeing as you have placed an order, but Lincoln run two ranges of machines. The Powercraft, which is more an entry level mchine such as you would be looking for and the Invertec range, which is the better specced industrial range. From memory a Powerclass AC/DC Tig from my dealer is around the $1400 dollar mark.
Having said that, the Token Tools machines have a lot of good reports out there and I reckon you'll be a happy little camper once you get yours up and running.
