Default found an old peerless arc welder

    hey guys,
hust looking for some help i found an old peerless welder whilst scrounging around incredibly it does seem to work, it is 130 amp, has a slide pole on the top to adjust amps and a locking pole on the front.
it has aluminium stickers and only states it is a single operative 130 amp and also states two different operating volts.
my question is that there seems to be three connections for leads however one has broken away from the plastic on top and no longer connects to anything what is this for?, i am hoping to fix the welder as a spare (replace main power supply lead and welding leads) as it seems a waste to let it waste away. (girlfriend just bought me a new cigweld 140 amp weld skill low duty cycle but much much lighter and easier to negotiate with)

For their time, Peerless were a very well thought of welding machine.
They have 4 copper coils which makes them very heavy.
Apart from the deteriation of the cables they will last a very long time with reasonable care.
True, they are limited by todays standards a bit by the 130 amp spec, but other wise a very rugged machine.

For a home diy type they would be an excellent welder to have.

    Default Peerless

    Hi,
chips63 could be right, but I think being an old Machine the Voltages would be 50 Volts General Welding and 80 Volts Special Welding. The later Machines are 45 Volt and 70 Volts where as the older Machines were 50 Volts and 80 Volts. This came about due to a Safety Change if I remember right. I don't know the Machine in Question that You have.
My Dad had a 140 Amp Peerless Arc Welder - 20 or 25 Years ago (Earth and Volt Taps on the Top). Its Voltages were 50 Volts for General Welding (this went to 140 Amp) and 80 Volts for Special Welding (this went to 100 Amps). As Grahame has basically said they are a Good Welder Machine.
