Hi Coded 412,
Welcome to our forum,
Please introduce yourself and tell us about yourself, rather than like some folk who will take the info they need and we never see them again. Our loss and more so theirs!
Don't take it the wrong way but some guys are like that.
That having been said, a non Tafe provider that I found after 1 minutes search on Google was
Coded Welding, Pipe / Plate Training at XLT
Please be sitting down when you get the course fees as I don't think they will be cheaper than Tafe.
Also know that before you accepted as qualifying as a Coded welder- if we are talking AS 1796 pressure vessel training -there are various provisions in the As 1796 code that you will need to meet in terms of prior experience -ie arc time. I was involved in this for over a decade as a trainer and certifier.
There is a huge difference in someone qualifying in say a AS1554 .1 procedure and a welder that has a AS 1796 cert. My code is superseded and well out of date,so you are well advised to be aware of whats in the latest one. The code is not cheap either.
This is a way of keeping the failure rate down which could well be as high as 40% of a group. look at it this way.As a trainer/organisation you don't sign up a bunch of students that don't have the background, practice ,arc time. The course time could be used up in showing rookies, the basics. The coded courses are not about that. its a fine tuning course for already very experienced welders. If this group are any good this should be explained to you.
Ask these sorts of questions before you lay your money down.
Best of luck with it and come back and tell us what you found out. ,<edit>
