    Default Job Pricing?

    G'day,
I am hoping it's not too rude a question but I am wondering how others price their work, for router and plasma cutting. I have come up with my own basic pricing for the type of router work I mostly do, but am almost plasma ready now, and don't know where to begin. Perhaps a $/pierce+$/area of part?
    Cheers,
    Tim.

I don't charge for jobs but talk to a few blokes that laser and router cut parts. Charge a setup cost that covers design and generating the code. Beware of orders that request 200 units to get the unit cost down - they change their mind but expect the lower unit cost on the order.

Material should be priced separately and the rest by the hour. Your software should be able to tell you how long it takes to run the job and add setup, cleanup, deburring and finishing if necessary. Also add depreciation of your machine. I am told that your machine should be amortised over three years of production.

Probably for simplicity the hourly rate can be juggled to include all the extras so you can charge setup fee, an hourly rate and materials and not worry about the rest.

If you do a spreadsheet you will soon get the formulas right.
    Cheers,
    Rod

    Thanks Rod,

That simplifies it nicely. Did the sums and came up with a number that should work.
